Sources and Resources

By: Michael Woodall

INTRODUCTION

Is doing research a “source” of frustration for you, not knowing where to begin? In the Writing Center (WC), we sometimes encounter students who desire assistance with locating sources for their research. If you are writing a research paper (or similar type of work) and want help with locating relevant sources, please take a look at the following information and webpages that may be helpful for you.

SOURCES

Consider starting at our own Boyce Library's website. By using the “Articles” tab, you can exclusively search for journal articles there that relate to your subject. Furthermore, consider searching for your topic (e.g., “environmental ethics”) in order to retrieve articles, books, etc. In fact, you may actually access many of them in digital format since you are an SBTS student. Feel free also to check out library servicesand library staff for additional assistance. You may also obtain research help from them. Take a look also at the research guides and see what suits your subject. You may even access interlibrary loan for items located elsewhere. For most source needs, the library is the place to begin.

RESOURCES

Furthermore, if you're on campus, feel free to stop by the WC if you have any questions, need further assistance, etc. We also have hard copy resources there that may serve you well. (NOTE: Due to changes at SBTS, our WC meeting office in Boyce Library 225 may not be open and available for in-person meetings as with previous semesters.)

When you have a moment, please check out the following webpages (especially if you have not seen them before):

SBTS Writing Center - Our webpage where you can find us, submit papers for review, schedule an appointment, etc. *Note: you can schedule an appointment with one of our mentors if you'd like to talk more specifically about your paper.

SBTS WC Extension Site - Our extra space for extra things, such as resources, events, our blog, etc.*Note: please click around to find more related resources.

SBTS Manual of Style and Templates - You can download digital copies of the Manual of Style (MOS) and official SBTS paper templates. *Note: consider utilizing the “Research Paper Template.”

SBTS WC Resources - Lots of great things here to improve your writing. *For future reference, notice the “SBTS Citation Quick Guide” (button)--very helpful with footnotes and bibliography! *Note: in the future, you can also view our other research paper related resources here (click on buttons and see issuu windows). *Also, of particular help for you, see MOS (version 5.1).

SBTS WC Student Workshops - (scroll to the bottom of this page) These one-hour workshops are intended to improve student writing, covering a variety of helpful topics. They usually meet in Boyce Library, Crismon Hall (in the basement) or via Zoom (esp. given institutional changes) and are usually listed on this calendar. They may help you tremendously.

Also, take a look at these helpful videos on theological writing.
